Synopsis: “Apartment 7A” by Natalie Erika James serves as both a preface and a sequel to Ira Levin’s book “Rosemary’s Baby.” Following the 2022 repeal of Roe v. Wade, Roman Polanski’s film is the most recent in Hollywood’s new era of prenatal horror. “Immaculate” and “The First Omen” are two other films from this year that exemplify similar themes, although James’ largely strong film more effectively conveys the fears of the present. Though it feels like it’s always pulling in two different directions, the movie is mostly entertaining. Both as the forerunner of a masterpiece and as a unique creature with its own complaints against patriarchal standards.
