Synopsis: Oliver is motivated by lust, as Saltburn attempts to suggest, but this is where the movie breaks down. Oliver’s infatuation with Felix is ruined by liaisons with Farleigh and Venetia as the movie approaches its climactic climax. It briefly shadows Oliver and Felix’s relationship, making it somewhat undeveloped and preventing the climax from landing completely. Maybe it’s because Fennell, in an attempt to surprise, doesn’t quite succeed in revealing the extent of Oliver’s goals until the very end. Saltburn is undoubtedly the kind of movie that would benefit from a second or even third watch, but in order to really get the point, the story’s buildup needed more suspense.
