Synopsis: From his triumph over the British at Toulon during the height of the Revolution in 1793. It is to his death in exiled on the island of Saint Helena in 1821, the life of Napoleon is shown in the film. Even for a three-hour movie, that’s a lot of material to cover, and what we see seems more like little snippets of the man’s life than a whole portrait. His political maneuvers, turbulent relationship with Josephine, and significant military victories and setbacks all deserve space. In his previous films, Scott has shown that he is capable of handling all three of these storylines; in ‘Gladiator,’ he even managed to strike a balance between the action, the political, and the personal.
